April is Autism Acceptance Month ⭐
This Autism Acceptance Month, the RRTC focuses on advancing healthcare equity for autistic people through increasing awareness of the mental health needs of autistic individuals. There are major healthcare disparities and access issues surrounding the mental health needs of autistic individuals. Part of societal acceptance can be shown through remediation of these issues.
REEP member Brian Boyd contributed to the following publication regarding mental health and advancing health equity for autistic individuals.
Please see the commentary below to learn more about this important work:
“To summarize, autistic people are more likely to experience poor mental health across their lifespan, but less likely to receive the support they need. An evidence-based approach to mental health services for autistic people across diverse settings, co-designed with relevant community partners to ensure accessibility and effectiveness, is necessary. Only by acknowledging the importance of a personalized approach to mental health support for autistic people, and recognizing that effective implementation requires consistent investment in accessible high-quality care, will these health inequities be addressed.”
