The month of November is Native American Heritage Month, and Native American Heritage Day is celebrated the day after Thanksgiving every year.
This year, Native American Heritage Day is on November 29th.
This is a time to honor the deep and vibrant cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native American Communities. Let’s honor and recognize the resilience and history of Indigenous peoples.
It is also a time to dedicate increasing awareness of the needs of those who identify as American Indian or Alaska Native with disabilities.
Around 30 percent of American Indian or Alaska Native adults have a disability. This is the highest rate of disability of any ethnicity.
The National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA) has released a toolkit dedicated to increasing awareness and knowledge of the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native persons living with disabilities.
